Wow. I’m just going to start off by saying this book was so good I finished it in one sitting. It feels so good to get lost into a good book after going so long without being able to focus on anything. This is my first time reading anything by Gin Phillips, and I will be reading more of her books, I don’t know why it has taken me this one to pick up one.
So my review:
I loved everything about this book from the plot, to the characters to how it ended. The story kept moving, and nothing got dragged on or dull. Fierce Kingdom is about a mother doing everything she can to protect her son from the gunmen who are shooting up the zoo. At first, while they are playing in the children’s area, they have no idea what is going on back by the entrance. Everything starts when they finally reach the front gates of the zoo, and the mother sees him….the man with the gun.
So we scops up Lincoln and she runs!
I liked how the thought process going on for all the characters involved seemed to be all over the place. No one had any relevant thoughts and that I think worked really well in the story. Because I don’t believe anyone in that kind of situation would have a clear mind. I wanted the mother and the little boy OUT OF THAT ZOO, and I didn’t realize how badly I wanted them out of harm’s way until I was literally getting angry at how long it seemed to be taking the police to get there. Until I kept reading and found out why it was taking them 3 HOURS to get in there and then it all started making sense.
I recommended this book to everyone. Its a well-developed story about the sacrifices a mother will make to ensure the safety of her son. Even if those sacrifices will swallow her whole in guilt.
